"You're wearing a mask. You look better that way."

Iggy Pop is the man. Anyone who doubts this is wrong. There's no room for opinion here. This is fact.

We all know and love The Stooges. His solo stuff is hit and miss, but the hits really do. Takes some looking and most of the solo Iggy is worth not looking into. But every now and again there are some real gems.

I bring you one of them. The outro of this song lists the ingredients any decent rock band should have. In fact if you measured every rock band up against these things you can see exactly what is is they're missing.

1. Irony
2. Balls
3. Brains
4. Soul

The Stooges, Funhouse, and Raw Power have all of these things in spades. And everyone of those albums is fucking perfect.

I bring you "Mask" from the album "Beat 'Em Up." I also give you the live performance from The Late Show with David Letterman, August 2001.

Enjoy,

The Pixies - Live at Winnipeg, 2004

Two days ago, my friend Tania and I watched the 1977 movie Eraserhead. In the movie the "Lady in the Radiator" (pictured above in all of her freak-me-out glory) sings a song; the lyrics are "In heaven everything is fine, in heaven, everything is fine, in heaven, everything is fine, you've got your good thing, and I've got mine." I then wondered when the movie was made, and then realized that The Pixies actually covered this song... which I had no idea about and only felt dumb because I didn't know. Whatever.

So in light of Tania and I watching this movie (twice, actually, because we watched it again that same night with other people), here are two tracks from the bootleg show from April 15, 2004 in Winnipeg, MB. If anyone else wants the rest of the show (it's really good, 24 tracks long, and they do a cover of "Winterlong" by Neil Young), email us at halfmachinelipmoves@gmail.com and we'll be sure to send you the whole show.

Helmet with David Yow - Custard Pie

This is the first post that we (Caroline and James) will be doing on this blog. We sat around and bitched and yelled and argued for the better part of two hours about the name (thank you, Chrome), and then spent the next hour fighting over the first song to go on here. after much deliberation, we finally picked a song that we liked and that was versatile with our musical taste.

Helmet and David Yow did a cover of Custard Pie on a Led Zeppelin tribute album entitled "Encomium," and this is easily the highlight of the album. We love Zep (we especially Physical Graffiti) and we love The Jesus Lizard (Caroline especially loves David Yow), so this was an easy pick for us. Two birds with one stone.

Enjoy. Here's our test to see if this thing works...
